Hi, i am currently 26 weeks and was just wondering how you can tell the lie of baby??? I am hopeless at feeling bits and bumps and knowing which is which!! I feel A LOT of kicks on my cervix, which incidentally also feels like a limb is going to fall out of my whatsit, and some under right ribs, and some under belly button also wondered if baby was tranverse would my belly feel hard around belly button height and also why i can't bend anymore if anyone can take a guess i would be interested!!! DS was breech and had had him turned at 37 weeks.

My baby has been transverse up until recently.. I'm 32 weeks.. Transverse in my opnion is really uncomfortable.. I felt really bloated and felt kicks etc in my sides.. I think baby is now oblique as feel more comfy as more room.. Wil find out Monday when I see consultant.. If you feel movement high up I think more likely not to be transverse ;)
Just marking my place as I would be interested to know how you can tell too!
I remember when pg with DD the rest of my NCT group discussing how their babies were positioned & me not having a clue - even just before I gave birth (33wks) I had no idea which way up she was or what limb was trying to poke out of my belly!

No idea. I went for my check up at 40 weeks plus 3 days and was told DC3 was transverse. I had no idea! Then when I went to have him turned the next day he was no longer transverse. I still had no idea!

My DS was transverse until 37 weeks. I had no idea and I don't know how they knew (obviously they can tell but I really can't). I also couldn't tell that he had turned himself, and he was a big baby.
This time she is head down, I am 29 weeks and also feels like she is about to fall out as she keeps banging into my cervix too. I can still feel lots of kicks and movements right at my sides though.

My last baby was transverse. Thi midwife didn't spot it, she told me he was definately head down and starting to engage. It was only because I had to go for a scan as she thought he was going to be huge (that was temp midwife) that they discovered he wasn't huge and wasn't head down either. His head was on my left, most of the time, till he turned and it was on the right, he just kept spinning round.
I was admitted to hospital at 37 weeks in case my waters went early...they never have before until forced, but there you go. I spent 24 hours rocking my hips like elvis and the minute he put his head down, they had me down in theatre, ready for c-section just in case when they broke my water the cord came first. It didn't and all was fine. But I had no inkling he wasn't head down, and if the experts can't tell, I don't think its as simple as knowing where he kicks as I used to feel mine a lot at the top but obviously he wasn't in the right place. The only way you can really tell is with a scan.
I am trying to push for one towards the end of this one though but so far they seem to be trying to fob me off, but I see the consultant next week....well theoretically, so will ask her.
Bear in mind though you are only 26 weeks and its too early for baby to put head down and keep it down. Worry more when its 36 weeks and still doing it
